Meet John Armitage

For nearly his entire life, John Armitage has been captivated by the creative process. After a family friend gifted him a camera at age 8, John has pursued photography both as a hobby and as a career. John is the founder and owner of Armitage Photography in the Atlanta metro area of Georgia. During his career, he has completed thousands of projects in product photography ranging from food items to furniture and full room settings. His specialty is in lighting design, bringing products to life and helping his corporate clients visually stand out in competitive marketplaces.

Education

A native of Oakland, California, John Armitage began his educational journey, first in the city of Calabasas and then in Ohio. Upon completing high school in Columbus, Ohio, John joined the U.S. Army and served with distinction. After his time in the military, he was accepted to California State University, Fullerton in 1983. In 1987, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Photography. His original goal as a photographer was to pursue a career in photojournalism.

An internship with product and special-effects photographer Jack Eadon would lead John to change his career trajectory and to hone his skills in product and commercial photography. It was in this internship that he first learned to control lighting in his photographic works – a critical component that would one day benefit his many commercial and corporate clients.

Professional Experience

John Armitage worked as a studio manager for a photographer in the Los Angeles area until 1993, when he relocated to the Atlanta region. He worked as a freelance photographer for Quadras, Inc. in Chamblee. During the early part of his career, he also operated his own commercial photography studio.

In 2007, John focused on his growing photography studio operation. His creative talents had given him the opportunity to work with a wide range of business and corporate clients, including Racetrac Petroleum, Martha Stewart, and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC). In addition to photography, John’s studio offers a full slate of photo services, including post-production, lighting design, and photo branding. The Armitage Studio also offers studio space rental and photo co-op services for independent photographers.

John is an active voice in photographic circles, sharing his insights on photo branding and lighting effects with followers on social media. He continues to serve clients with high-end digital imagery and services, helping those clients to reach new customers.
