He joined the Army after high school. Shortly after, he enrolled in the University of California, Fullerton's Communications Photography department. He earned a bachelor's degree in 1987. His early mentor, special effects photographer Jack Eason, taught him a lot. Jack guided his career by teaching him lighting effects.
